How did it start?
The concept of Muharat trading originated in the mid-50s at the Bombay Stock Exchange when the investors decided to trade on the day of Diwali to benefit from shubh muhurat. Since its inception in 1992, the National Stock Exchange too extended the same ritual as the countrys first stock exchange.
Many traders and merchants belonging to the States of Gujarat and Rajasthan maintain their books of accounts (vahi khata) as per the Hindu Samvat Calendar. They believe that profitable business activity on the first day brings fortune throughout the coming year. Since a majority of Dalal Street people belong to the said community, the seeds of muhurat trading were sown and now the ritual is an all-new enthusiasm amongst existing market participants and the new entrants.
When is it happening?
The Diwali of 2021 is falling on the 4th of November and this year, we are welcoming Samvat 2078. The muhurat trading session shall take place on the day when Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped.
The one-hour muhurat trading session will commence on 4th November 2021 at 6:15 PM and end at 7:15 PM. One can place orders to buy or sell shares within this one-hour window similar to normal trading sessions.
