Cartoons and the world around us

By Abhishek Sharma

Almost all of us know about Disney’s story. However, how many of us know that Walt Disney was dyslexic? Just like all of us, Walt Disney was also special and unique. Disney loved colors, irrespective of what was happening around him, he filled colours in his life just like he has in most of our lives as well.

Cartoons can teach us a lot of life lessons and my standout favourites, by far, are Duck Tales and Talespin. Both of these cartoons teach us very small things that we often take for granted. There is fun and adventure, there are the bad guys and troubled times but then there are family and friends.

Let’s look at Duck Tales. What would Uncle Scrooge, the richest duck in the world, be without Hewey, Dewey, Lewey, Mrs. Bekeley, Little Webby, Duckworth, Launchpad and Giaro in his life? For there are always bad people like Flintheart Glomgold, Magica The Spell & The Beagle Boys around us. Sometimes we know who they are and sometimes we don’t.

Would Uncle Scrooge have survived had the other characters not been in his life?

Hewey, Dewey and Lewey were naughty, yet life is incomplete without them. Mrs. Bekeley – the caring mother, Webby – the little talking girl (remember the Dinosaur episode where she made the cave ducks cry?) and of course the brilliant Giaro, each of them play a key role in the narrative. We may have troubles, but at the end of the day it is only what these people think of us that matters.

We all strive to achieve something and so did Uncle Scrooge, but he never let go of his shares of adventures, treasure expeditions and fun times with his family. And of course who can forget the junior wutchuk guide book, the repertoire of knowledge?

Take another example of Talespin. Shrewd characters like Sher Khan, the business mogul and Don Karnaj, the pirate, are always there to play with our lives for their own benefit but then we have Baloo, Ritika, Kit, Bunter, Louie and sweet little Dolly by our side. Your friends and family will always be there to your rescue.

Whatever anybody says or thinks, these animated cartoon characters teach us more than what most real life characters can teach us. Whenever you feel down about something, just pickup a cartoon series you cherished and watch away!
