Choosing the right critical illness plan

I have been searching for a critical illness plan since 6 days and finally my search is over. I compared few plans like icancer from Aegon, CancerCare from HDFC life, critical illness plan from Bharti Axa general insurance and CritiCare+ from Edelweiss Tokio Life. There are also critical illness riders which are available like ICICI Pru life insurance.

Now among all I further shortlisted ICICI Pru iProtect Smart and CritiCare+ by Edelweiss Tokio Life. At first what attracted me towards ICICI pru iProtect was that it covered 34 illnesses. But then I realised that when I opted only for a term plan without the rider the cost for the same was much less while when I added the rider it was as good as purchasing a new plan altogether. This made me think twice. Now if I choose a term plan of Rs 1 crore and the Rs 1 crore cover for critical illness rider, god forbid if I ever fall prey to a critical illness in the future my term cover will be nullified. In this case, I thought of looking at a stand-alone critical illness plan because that will give me complete protection at a reasonable premium cost and not hamper my term cover. Bharti Axa General insurance provided a cover of up to 20 illnesses but the sum assured it provided maximum was in lakhs which again disappointed me. The last option was Edelweiss Tokio life – CritiCare+, now thankfully this plan seemed suitable as per my requirements. It covered 17 critical illnesses, now 34 seemed to be big number as compared to 17 but when I actually read the diseases covered in ICICI pru iprotect it was like those 17 which were covered by Edelweiss is only broken down further and there was Parkinson’s which is not common in India so it didn’t matter to me. The 17 illnesses which CritiCare+ covered were the ones which are common like cancer, heart disease, organ transplant, kidney failure, etc. Also one great option which CritiCare+ provides is the multi claim option, so in this option the user can claim up to 3 times and after the first claim it waives off all future premiums. The tendency of one illness leading to another is high these days and hence this option sounded like a blessing. So, one can bounceback from a critical illness without any financial worries with Edelweiss Tokio Life – CritiCare+ the best critical illness plan according to me!
