Gujarat Assembly Election Results: BJP gets landslide, PM Modi in Delhi at BJP’s show of strength

The BJP recorded a landslide win in Gujarat with the Congress and the AAP taking the 2nd and the 3rd position in the state, respectively, pretty much in line with earlier exit poll predictions.

PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the people of Gujarat for the historic win.

Incumbent Bhupendra Pate will be sworn in as the new CM on December 12 at 2pm.

PM Modi posted a heartfelt message thanking Gujarat for the huge mandate. ‘I am overcome with a lot of emotions seeing the phenomenal election results. People blessed politics of development and at the same time expressed a desire that they want this momentum to continue at a greater pace. I bow to Gujarat’s Jan Shakti,’ PM Modi said.

The BJP fared better than even the records it set in 2002, when Narendra Modi led them to a total of 127 seats.

Rahul Gandhi accepted the mandate and promised that the Congress party will work hard. The party does need a serious relook at itself to emerge as a worthy contender against the BJP on the national stage, even as the AAP gains ground.

AAP’s performance in Gujarat however fell short in comparison, with only 5 seats at present. The AAP leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal thanked people for voting, as the party looked to enhance its national presence.
