Skoda Auto India Private Limited (SAIPL) is a subsidiary of the Czech auto manufacturing company, Skoda Auto A.S, and is now owned by Volkswagen. Skoda has been producing cars in India since 2001. Skoda Superb, the flagship vehicle of the company was first introduced in 2004 and re-launched in 2009. A facelift version was unveiled at the 2014 auto expo in New Delhi and the car has hit the Indian markets.
There are three petrol and two diesel models of the Skoda Superb available in India. The Ambition 1.8 TSI MT, the Elegance 1.8 TSI MT and 1.8 TSI AT are the petrol versions and the Ambition 2.0 TDI CR AT and the Elegance 2.0 TDI CR AT are the diesel versions. As the name suggests, the AT versions come with automatic transmission. The price of the Superb ranges from Rupees 18.6 to 24 lakhs approximately.
The front of the Superb is made more attractive with a chrome plated finned grille flanked by the two Xenon projector type headlamps, the running day light lamps and the fog lamps on either side of the air dam. The electrically operated body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators, the LED clear lens tail lamps, the twin rear doors, the R16 alloy wheels and the electrically adjustable sun roof (only for the higher variants) add luxury to the car.
In the cabin of the Skoda Superb an automatic AC, an integrated music system with touch screen display and CD system, a full folding rear seat, three 12V outlets and leather seats are provided. Higher variants have Bluetooth connectivity and steering mounted controls. For safety 8 airbags, ABS and EBD, a tilt/telescopic steering column, a cruise control, an engine immobilizer, a central locking and child lock system, headlight-off and ignition key-off reminders and rear parking sensors are provided.
The Superb petrol is powered by a 1798 cc, 158 bhp, and 250 Nm torque engine giving a mileage of 13.7 kmpl and the diesel version has a1968cc, 138 bhp, and 320 Nm torque engine with a mileage of 17.2 kmpl. The Skoda Superb will accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 11.3 seconds and has a top speed of 225 kmph.
The dimensions of the Superb are 4833 mm length, 1817 mm width and 1482 mm height. The car is available in shades of Magic Black, Amethyst Royal, Metal Grey, Magnetic Brown, Roso Brunello, Brilliant Silver and Candy White. The suspension is McPherson type at the front and the multi element axle type at the rear. The brakes are disc type.
The competition for the Skoda Superb comes from the cars like the Volkswagen Passat, the Honda Accord, the Audi A4 and the BMW3 series.
