Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an application and a portal “Main Nahin Hum” under the identified National Causes to empower various government organisations to cater to social welfare better.
Alternatively christened Self4Society, the platform is expected to enable civic and corporate bodies to create and enact their initiatives more easily so as to foster inclusive growth in the country. At the grand launch, electronic, manufacturing and IT professionals were encouraged to organise philanthropic exercises and initiatives as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The app and portal are primarily aimed at bringing together their efforts towards social causes, and service to society, on one platform.
Vision behind the app
The Self4Society network is believed to enable various organizations to make their corporate social responsibility (CSR) more collaborative and meaningful, according to Modi who unveiled the app and delivered the keynote address. He also urged for collaborative efforts in the agricultural sector which can help solve the problems of the farmers.
It is important to create an India where everyone has equal opportunities, he mentioned, after interacting with various CSR teams of Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Cisco Systems and Cognizant among other IT sector corporations. The entire event was carried out and coordinated with India’s booming IT sector hub from different parts of the country through video conferencing.
The role of young taxpayers and start-ups
Praising the contribution of Indian start-ups to the social services sector, Modi said, More power to youngsters doing such wonderful things.” A day after the income tax department released data of taxpayers in the country, Modi highlighted the increase in the number of taxpayers in the country in the last few years, saying that it owed itself to their faith in the government to properly use their money for the welfare of people.
Self4Society can help catalyse greater collaboration between corporations sharing the same vision to serve and uplift the weaker sections of society, especially by leveraging the benefits of technology. It is hoped to further encourage wider participation of interested backer and benefactors who wish to improve social welfare and equity in the country.
