Reports of infighting in state units of Congress have become too frequent in recent days.
Former Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi has travelled to Kerala as fighting factions, led by Kannur leader K Sudhakaran and opposition leader VD Satheesan, tussle with powerful blocs led by former CM Oommen Chandy and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala who have been longtime rulers in the party.
Problems first came to a boil with the release of the District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents list last month.
Amid the turmoil, Congress leader VM Sudheeran announced hia resignation from the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the senior think tank second only to the Congress Working Committee, days after he quit the partys political affairs committee (PAC).
While the five-time MP chose to maintain silence over the circumstances leading to his resignation, leaders close to him said he was not happy with the appointment of Sudhakaran and his way of functioning.
Gandhi will be visiting his parliamentary constituency of Wayanad today, as he disembarked at the Calicut airport in Karipur, from where he is set to proceed to Kozhikode and Malappuram later. The main objective is speculated to be the dousing of the brewing tensions.
It remains to be seen whether this well ease the disgruntlement among senior leaders, who feel sidelined in important party decisions, as the Congress faces increasing turmoil in its key states, on the back of the Punjab upheaval.
