Every year, International Womens Day is celebrated across the world on the 8th of March. The celebration is ordinarily in the form of programs such as social gatherings, conferences, awards, exhibitions, festivals, fun-runs, corporate events, concert performances, speaking events, online digital gatherings, etc. The group of people associated with such events are usually women from large-scale corporations, charities, educational institutions, government bodies, political parties, the media and further community. The commemoration of International Womens Day this year witnessed an amalgamation of both, the celebration of womens position in the society and the protest insisting upon equality for women across the world.

Rallies took place in Pakistan, Nepal and Spain to earmark the ongoing protests for gender equality. Barcelona, in Spain, watched the first ever national strike against unequal wages and gender violence.

Similarly, in Madrid, the capital of Spain, echoed the slogan “If we stop, the world stops.” Women in Madrid also participated in the ‘pans meeting’ to call for a feminist strike.

The streets of Italy were lit by fire flares in the hands of protesting young women.

In New Delhi, young women assembled on the streets, shouting slogans demanding equal rights from the state.

Further, in Manila, Philippines, women protested by demanding justice for the victims of extrajudicial killings.

Meanwhile, South Korea observed intense support for the #MeToo campaign in a rally organised by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.

Also, the World Tennis Association organised an event in Singapore to launch its ultimate edition and mark the International Womens Day.

China came out to mark the day as well, campaigning for equal pay.
Many differently-abled women from various countries of the African continent assembled to identify and accumulate measures which need to be taken for combating violence against differently-abled women and young girls in the continent in order to put an end to gender-based violence. Lastly, the International Womens Day flag was seen flying over the UK parliament for the very first time in the history of the House of Commons.
