Insanity Prevails In Uttar Pradesh

By Anuj Sabharwal

Insanity may manifest as violations of societal norms. Certain acts of behavioral patterns can be categorized as insanity. The timing of Safai celebration by Samajwadi Party has been criticized widely as riot victims of Muzaffarnagar shivered in cold in relief camps. According to the reports, 350 crores of tax payers’ money was spent on Safai celebration as stars were invited to dance.

Before discussing this, I would like to discuss about Bhagat Puran Singh of Punjab. We can call him the “Father Teresa of Punjab.” Who was he? Did he belong to any political party? No. He was an epitome of love and compassion whose contribution to society has not been less than Mother Teresa. He had a difficult childhood and rendered homeless, penniless after the partition in 1947. But he was extraordinarily sensitive to the pain and suffering of others. He adopted, Piara, a mentally impaired, deaf and mute boy, whom he carried on his back for fourteen years. He called Piara as the ‘garland around the neck.’ He would sit begging outside the entrance of the Golden Temple. He did this as there was no help forthcoming from any quarter. The money collected via begging was used by Bhagat Puran Singh on the disabled, destitute and the diseased in Amritsar. By 1948, he had set up the Pingalwara, a community dedicated to the care of destitute. His service to the needy and homeless is incomparable. He was awarded Padma Shri for his unmatched service to the humanity.

Compared to this are the Samajwadi Party leaders who wasted money on celebrations when they could have done a world of good to riot victims. The actions of SP leaders were a shame to the humans. They installed fourteen heaters to warm the guests when around thirty four kids died of cold in camps. Salt on the wounds were rubbed when these men called riot victims living in camps as agents of BJP and Congress. Some said that how can anybody die of cold. These are the perfect examples of insanity where words speak for themselves. As mentioned earlier, there is no need to behave like morons to prove insanity. Whatever celebrated at Safai was foolish and unreasonable. The celebration could have been avoided or done in a simple way to the tune of atmosphere. Samajwadi Party leaders should go and learn lessons of humanity from Pingalwara.
