Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor Cleared Of All Charges In Sunanda Pushkar Death Case

A Delhi court on Wednesday discharged senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in a case related to his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death.

Ms. Puskhar was found dead in the suite of a luxury hotel she was staying at with Mr. Tharoor in January 2014.

Senior advocate Vikas Pahwa, counsel for Mr. Tharoor, told the court that the investigation conducted by the SIT completely exonerated the politician of all the charges brought against him.

The Delhi Police had sought to frame charges under Sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 306 of the Indian Penal Code. Mr. Tharoor was granted bail on July 5, 2018.

“It had been seven and half years and it was a torture. I’m so grateful,” Tharoor told judge Geetanjali Goel, via virtual link.
