The BJP hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s directive to various government departments and ministries to undertake recruitment of 10 lakh people in the next year and a half, even as the Opposition dubbed it as ‘jumle-baazi’ alluding to the earlier promises made.
The announcement came on the back of a review of the status of human resource in all government departments and ministries, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
‘PM reviewed the status of human resources in all departments and ministries and instructed that recruitment of 10 lakh people be done by the government in mission mode in next 1.5 years’ the Prime Ministers Office tweeted on Monday.
This will be a foundation of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat‘ in a true sense, said Home Minister Amit Shah.
The government earlier this year told Parliament that there are a whopping 8.72 lakh vacant posts in central government departments as on March 1, 2020. While over 40 lakh have been sanctioned, less than 32 lakh employees are in place.
The government has been trying to fill up these vacancies over the years, but not with much success.
Congress’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said PM Modi had promised to provide two crore jobs every year, so by that logic, 16 crore jobs should have been provided in the last eight years.

‘Till when will ‘Jumle-baazi‘ (rhetoric) continue?’ Surjewala asked.
In a tweet, the CPM said that having ‘miserably failed’ in his promise of crores of jobs every year with record high unemployment.
