Vivek Agnihotri set to begin work on ‘The Delhi Files’ after ‘The Kashmir Files’ Success

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files turned out to be a massive hit, making more than 200 crores at the box office.

The film, based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the 1990s, starred Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi in key roles.

The Kashmir Files released countrywide on March 11, one of the few post-pandemic movies that grabbed the headlines and became a bonafide hit.

Despite its success at the box office, the film was called out for its problematic politics by some critics and authors.

The movie also sparked a debate across the political spectrum, after several BJP-ruled states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, gave it tax-free status.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself endorsed the movie as putting history in the ‘right perspective.’

Modi added that the ‘ecosystem’ that had worked to suppress the ‘truth’ for so long was now opposing the film.

After the movie’s phenomenal run, Agnihotri has now announced his next film, The Delhi Files.

Taking to Twitter earlier today, the filmmaker wrote, ‘I thank all the people who owned #TheKashmirFiles. For last 4 yrs we worked very hard with utmost honesty & sincerity. I may have spammed your TL but it’s important to make people aware of the GENOCIDE & injustice done to Kashmiri Hindus. It’s time for me to work on a new film.’

In the following tweet, he announced the name of his next project, with many in the entertainment industry saying it might be based on the 2020 Delhi riots, given its title.

We will just have to wait and watch.
