American protesters have spoken out in favour of a ‘sex strike’, as ‘abstinence’ trends on on Twitter in the wake of the US Supreme Courts decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade ruling.
The Supreme Court in the United States on Friday overturned the landmark Roe vs Wade ruling that almost instantly made abortion illegal in 13 US States. 26 other states are either eventually certain or likely to make moves to ban abortion outright.
Brianna Campbell, a 24-year-old Emergency Medical Technician, told The New York Post that men who wouldnt get a vasectomy, which she pointed out were reversible, and werent in the streets fighting for her rights did ‘not deserve to have sex with [her].’
A number of other social media users were sharing an image online that read ‘#SexStrike. If our choices are denied, so are yours.’
The UK joined the United States with protests taking place across the country, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson described it as a ‘big step backwards,’
Many took to the streets of London and Edinburgh to demonstrate against the decision.
In Vauxhall, south London, crowds gathered outside the US Embassy, some in costumes, with signs reading ‘Our bodies, Our choice.’
