This Bengaluru suburb is the ?lucky? common link between Flipkart, Infosys and Biocon

India’s largest e-commerce company, Flipkart; second largest IT services exporter, Infosys; and biotechnology major, Biocon have one thing in common— all three of them were born in Bengaluru suburb, Koramangala. The fact was recently highlighted by Biocon Chairperson, Ms Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, who posted a picture of Flipkart’s first office in a tweet saying, “Flipkart’s First Office: A Bungalow That Nurtured $20.8 Billion Unicorn – Infosys & Biocon also started in rented offices in Koramangala – lucky suburb!”

However, up until the 1990s, Koramangala was a swampland, notorious for being marshy and mosquito-ridden. The area is now famous as a startup-incubator, with several familiar names such as Ola, Zipdial, Swiggy, HackerEarth, FreshMenu and Big Basket having taken flight from here. A theory in fact fittingly suggests that the name ‘Koramangala’ is derived from the Kannada words ‘kora’ meaning overhaul and ‘mangala’ meaning ‘welfare’.

After all, the Bengaluru suburb is now home to several self-made billionaires, including Infosys co-founders Nandan Nilekani and Kris Gopalakrishnan, Dr Devi Shetty, and Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Binny Bansal of Flipkart also recently acquired a 10,000 sqft home for the equivalent of $5 million.

Naturally, Koramangala is gradually making its way to becoming one of the most preferred realty destinations in Bengaluru, with premium apartments catering to the glitzy image that the suburb has now come to be associated with. One such project is Prestige Group’s Prestige Pine Wood, which sits on a prime land of 2.5 acres. Why ‘Pine Wood’, you ask? Well, the development’s building façade is contemporary with straight lines and imaginative use of understated colours and textures, providing it with a theme of sorts.

Adding to the appeal of the project is the proximity of Koramangala to several commercial buildings in glass and steel, along with retailers, restaurants and many prestigious educational institutions like Jyoti Nivas College, the Indian Institute of Astrophysics and St. John’s Medical College. The connectivity is top-notch as well, with the area being surrounded by Hosur Road, Sarjapur Main Road, and Intermediate Ring Road. This does not, however, mean that the project itself is devoid of modern amenities. The structure is complete with a club-house with amenities such as a mini theatre, banquet hall, gymnasium, billiards & TT room, along with a swimming pool and a spa.
