The Millennial Vacationer: Best Travel Destinations Across the Globe

There are all kinds of stereotypes about millennials that could not be farther from the truth. Despite what you may’ve read or heard, no, millennials are not lazy, they are not entitled, and they are not soft. They are hardworking, compassionate, and understand technology and its importance better than any group of people in the history of the world.

That being said, there are some millennial stereotypes that are, in fact, true. For instance, millennials really do love avocado (at least for the most part), they love travelling, and they love learning. That’s why the millennial trifecta involves going on a trip, learning lots of cool stuff, and all the avocado.

Okay, the millennial trifecta isn’t a thing (yet), but it sounds cool. That being said, 78% of millennials admit to wanting to learn something new while vacationing or travelling.

Whether millennials are travelling just a few miles outside their home state or across the globe, they don’t just want to kick back and relax. They want to experience new things and learn as much as they can. There are roughly five times as many motorcoach terminals across the country as there are airports, so domestic travel by bus remains a popular option for young Americans, but there is nothing like experiencing an entirely new culture in a foreign land.

Here are some of the greatest travel destinations that are perfect for millennials:

  • New York City, New York — It sounds a little cliche, but NYC truly is a magical city. There are an infinite number of adventures you can get into across the five boroughs. You can do all the touristy stuff like catch a Broadway show, visit the Statue of Liberty, walk around Time Square. Or you can really transform into a local and spend your entire life on the subway — either way, you’ll have fun and learn plenty of stuff along the way.
  • Dubai, United Arab Emirates — Dubai is the largest and most popular city in the United Arab Emirates. In addition to the breathtaking views and amazingly fun activities that you can do in this city, there are so many historic landmarks that it’s virtually impossible to leave without learning a significant amount more about this unfamiliar city, country, and part of the world.
  • Rome, Italy — Though millennials might not like sports as much as those baby boomers and their brouhaha, they still enjoy a great athletic competition. The five largest sports in the U.S. are baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, and football; but travelling to Rome will showcase a much more historic form of sports. Construction started on the Roman Colosseum back in 70 AD, is the largest amphitheatre ever built, and held all sorts of iconic sporting events.
  • Paris, France — Paris might be great for anyone to enjoy, but it’s especially great for millennials. You could spend months walking around Paris and barely scratch the surface of the city’s cultural treasures. Just try not learning a bunch after visiting all the wonderful museums, shopping centres, and fancy cafes.
  • Washington, D.C. — If you really want to learn a thing or two, skip the beach vacation and head to the U.S. capital. The Lincoln Memorial, United States Capitol building, the White House, Washington Monument, we can keep going… you’ll learn so much about the history of America by spending just a few hours in this city. Think about how much you’ll learn after a long weekend or a week!
  • Hong Kong, China — You’ll be amazed as you walk underneath the skyscrapers across the China skyline. Pro tip: if you really want to experience Hong Kong right, hop a ferry to Lantau Island, which is where a Buddhist monastery resides, and enjoy all those wonderful views of this historical city.
