Delhi vs Centre battle: Sisodia files RTI against BJP

By Anirudh Singla

At odds, since Day 1

When two political factions in any democracy resort to negative criticism while traces of constructive criticism appear shallower than the waters of the Dead Sea, we have reasons to worry. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which holds the reins of the state government in New Delhi and the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have always been at odds with almost all decisions regarding policy implementation in the capital city.

RTI filed to “expose” Center

Recently, Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of New Delhi filed an RTI this Friday for investigating the monetary details of the Social Media and ‘Digital India’ campaigns of the Prime Minister. On a letter dated 27 January, Mr Sisodia wrote to the PM’s Principal Secretary Nripendra Misra. He demanded requisite information that sheds light on the process of payments undertaken by Centre-Run schemes in the domain of government advertising. Due to the lack of a response, he had to file an RTI through which he requested access to file notings and official correspondence. Justifying his move, Mr Sisodia stated, “In the same way, if they have anything to hide in this case, they will do so. If Mr Modi has the CBI, we have RTI.

They use the CBI to take our files, while we use RTI to do so.

We will share all information that we get with the public.” Further allegations were made as he asked, “Advertisements in social media are paid for by credit cards and have a credit limit. Which credit card was used by the Modi government for these advertisements?”

Petty antics

The pressing concern is the amount of time, the Central and State government spend on hurling accuses at each other which can be used productively in other ways. In Delhi itself, there a lot of problems the general citizens are facing. With the government’s diverted attention, it’s very tough to see resolute measures come to action.

Ideally, AAP’s foremost agenda should be catering to the increased pollution level problems and implementing the Odd-Even Policy efficiently. Also, focusing on development projects that were promised in their manifesto. These political stunts that involve allegations are futile. The Centre too needs to realise that they have to look into policy implementation in 29 other states and 6 Union Territories as well.

Accusing and targeting one government, in particular, isn’t what democratic ideals profess.

Let us hope to see more fruitful initiatives being undertaken by both the branches of the executive organ, for the betterment of the Indian populace.
