Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala shot dead

On Sunday, singer Sidhu Moose Wala left his house around 4:30 pm with his cousin Gurpreet Singh and neighbour Gurwinder Singh.

Moose Wala was driving according to the police, when his SUV reached the village Jawaharke, a car that had followed them and two more ahead of them blocked their way and opened fire from the front.

Moose Wala died on the spot. He was said to have been shot over 30 times by around eight to 10 attackers,

Police say the killing appeared to be revenge for the murder of an Akali leader, Vicky Middukhera, last year, which allegedly had connections to Moose Wala’s management.

Six suspects have been detained in Punjab’s Mansa district in connection with the murder. An AN 94 Russian assault rifle was used in the attack, according to the bullets examined at the scene, police also recovered a pistol.

Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar is said to have claimed responsibility for the killing on social media.

CCTV footage, that is yet to confirmed, shows two cars trailing Sidhu Moose Wala’s SUV moments before he was shot dead. Punjab Police suspect gang rivalry to be the primary motive.

Goldy Brar, or Satinder Singh, is a close aide of gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, who police claim to be the main suspect in Moose Wala’s murder.

Moose Wala, originally Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, 28, had contested the Punjab elections from Mansa on a Congress ticket. He was defeated by AAP candidate Vijay Singla.

Singla was sacked last week by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over charges of corruption.
