PM Narendra Modi’s Cabinet ‘Reboot’: Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dr. Harsha Vardhan, Prakash Javadekar Out

PM Narendra Modi’s first Cabinet reshuffle since his re-election is being announced at 6 pm today.

Ministers including Education Minister Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, Labour Minister Mr. Santosh Gangwar, Woman and Child Development Minister Ms. Debasree Chaudhuri, Environment Minister Babul Supriyo and Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, lately in the news have resigned ahead of the rejig.

The initial speculation has predicted the changes in the Union cabinet as a “major shakeup” in the government as the Prime Minister looks to make it “more representative”

The council is expected to have more representation of women and those from the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and the Dalit communities.

The new Team Modi is also likely to have a relatively younger profile with leaders such as Anurag Thakur and Jyotiraditya Scindia taking oath. Analysts say that this has as much to do with upcoming state elections and poll strategies, which are considered central to the rejig.

Portfolios are yet to be announced at this time, as a total of 43 new members take oath to be part of the Modi cabinet. Further updates are expected.
