Liverpool defeat Barcelona 4-0 in UEFA Semi Final

Liverpool beat Barcelona in the 2nd leg of the UEFA Champions League Semi Final in Anfield, Liverpool on 7th June, 2019.

In a highly dramatic contest, Liverpool pulled off the unlikeliest of miracles by defeating Barcelona in the 2nd leg. After being down 0-3 in the first match, Liverpool scored 4 goals in their home ground.

Georginio Wijnaldum and Divock Origi scored 2 goals each to lead Liverpool to a 4-0 victory over Barcelona. Liverpool now qualifies for the UEFA Champions League finals, 2nd time in a row, while Barcelona has been eliminated.

Liverpool will face the winner of the Ajax vs Tottenham draw, where Ajax currently lead by 1-0. Tottenham would love to do what their fellow British team has done. However, Ajax will have learned from today: no lead is enough.

Jurgen Klopp’s mean pulled off the impossible despite Roberto Firminho and Mohammed Salah being out, and Andy Robertson being called off in the first half. Infact, it was Robertson’s replacement, Georginio Wijnaldum who scored two goals in the second half before Divock Origi scored the final, fourth goal.

However, the fourth goal might spark controversy, given the opportunistic nature. It was lax on Barcelona’s part to not be vigilante after having eaten 3 goals already. Alexander-Arnold took the corner and Origi struck and the night was closed for Barcelona.

Liverpool now advance to Madrid, where they will hope to finally win the title that they missed last year. Will they face Ajax, or will they face Tottenham is a question we’ll have an answer to in 24 hours.
