Lakshya Sen wins maiden Commonwealth Games badminton gold, joins PV Sindhu in gold tally

India badminton ace Lakshya Sen won the elusive gold at the Commonwealth Games 2022, when he defeated Ng Tze Yong of Malaysia 19-21, 21-9, 21-16 in the men’s singles final held in Birmingham on Sunday.

Sen came back from being a game down to win the next two convincingly, as he went for gold and got it.

Sen was instrumental in India’s historic Thomas Cup win recently and also collected bronze at the World Championships.

Sen joined fellow shuttler PV Sindhu in winning the country’s second individual badminton gold at CWG 2022 and took India’s medal count at the Games to 57, this being the 20th gold.

Sindhu beat Michelle Li of Canada in straight games (21-15, 21-13) in the final, always being a step ahead to complete a hat-trick of CWG medals. She had won bronze in 2014 in Glasgow and silver four years ago at the Gold Coast.
