Holi Horrors: Japanese tourist gets harassed during festival of colours

In a video that has gone viral, a solo Japanese traveller who has been living in India and wanted to experience Holi had a horrifying experience with a group of men who behaved inappropriately with her.

The video showcased how scary it still is for single women travelling in India particularly highlighting safety issues during festivals such as this.

Reports suggest that the woman first tweeted the horrifying video but later deleted it. The video that has now gone viral caused justifiable outrage online.

Bollywood actor Richa Chadha called for the arrest of the men, even as others tweeted in anger.

Speechless with rage. What these men are doing to this woman is sexual assault. All of their faces are identifiable. THIS is bloody why every Holi women recall the horror they have faced. It’s a ‘license to molest’ fest for men.@DelhiPolice @CPDelhi https://t.co/nv0vgWkiyL https://t.co/WjEifw02ko

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal on Friday reacted to the video and said DCW will issue a notice to the Delhi Police to examine these videos and arrest the perpetrators.

‘Completely shameful behaviour,’ Maliwal tweeted.

National Commission for Women member and BJP leader Khushbu Sundar tweeted, ‘Sickening. The woman has to send a notice to NCW.’

Many social media users commented on the reply section and asked her to file a police complaint.

No police complaint was lodged. The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.

Delhi Police said it saw the video and has written to the embassy for the details of the woman.

The details of the men seen in the video is also being collected, police said, as reported by ANI.
