Bob Saget, the actor and comedian most famous for his role in 80s TV staple ‘Full House’, has died at the age of 65.
Saget was found unresponsive in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida on Sunday. The Orange County sheriffs office confirmed Sagets death on Twitter on Monday, saying that no cause of death had been determined yet and that there there were no signs of foul play or drug use.
Saget was on tour and had performed a show in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday night.
Bob Saget was born in Philadelphia in 1956, Saget and had short stints on network TV, but it was his role as widower Danny Tanner on Full House, that catapulted him to worldwide fame.
Full House, which ran from 1987 to 1995, saw Saget’s character enlist his brother-in-law, played by John Stamos, and his best friend Joey Gladstone, played by Dave Coulier, to help raise his three children.
Stamos tweeted ‘I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him. I love you so much Bobby.’
While on Full House, Saget also hosted ‘Americas Funniest Home Videos’ from 1989 to 1997. He provided the voice of the future Ted Mosby on the popular show ‘How I Met Your Mother.’
Saget later reprised the role of Danny Tanner for a Netflix reboot of Fuller House, which ran on the streaming platform until 2020.
Saget was also a well-known stand-up, regularly performing in the US and was famed for his much more ‘adult’ material, as opposed to his squeaky-clean TV image.
Comedian Jon Stewart remembered him as ‘just the nicest and funniest’, while Marc Maron tweeted, ‘Truly one of the nicest guys and so funny. Very sad.’
Drew Carey wrote ‘Well this one hurts. I loved Bob Saget. He gave me so much encouragement when I first started out. He was a real friend to me too. Not just a mentor. I always looked up to him. He was SO damn funny and so kind.’
‘Bob was the most loving, compassionate and generous man,’ Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who played Michelle Tanner, the youngest member of the Tanner family, said in a statement released to Today. ‘
We are deeply saddened that he is no longer with us but know that he will continue to be by our side to guide us as gracefully as he always has. We are thinking of his daughters, wife and family and are sending our condolences.’
The Olsens famously did not reprise their roles in the reboot. Candace Cameron Bure, who played Saget’s daughter DJ on Full House, tweeted ‘I dont know what to say. I have no words. Bob was one of the best human beings Ive ever known in my life. I loved him so much.’Dave Coulier also took to Twitter to honor Sagets life, writing, ‘My heart is broken. I love you, Bob. Your forever brother, Dave.’
Saget is survived by his wife and three children.
