Did India ‘accidentally’ fire a missile into Pakistan?

On 9 Mar 2022, during routine maintenance, a ‘technical malfunction’ led to the accidental missile firing from India into Pakistani airspace, according to a statement released by the Defence Ministry.

The supersonic unarmed missile from India is said to have landed in the Mian Chunnu area of the Punjab in Pakistan.

India confirmed the incident, calling it ‘deeply regrettable’, adding that it was a ‘matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident.’

A statement by the Defence Ministry also said that the Indian Government was to take a ‘serious view’ of the incident and has ‘ordered Court of Enquiry.’
