Delhi: Another ‘fridge murder,’ and a wedding the same day

Nikki Yadav, a 24-year-old woman, was strangled by her boyfriend with a charging cable and stuffed in a fridge, was seen in CCTV footage from her home, close to the spot where she was murdered.

The young woman’s body was found on Tuesday, inside a fridge at a restaurant owned by her boyfriend Sahil Gehlot’s family.

Nikki Yadav was last seen in CCTV footage entering her rented home in south-west Delhi. In the video, dated February 9, she appears to be entering alone.

The police say she was murdered a few hours later. Gehlot, 24, was arrested in connection with the murder, as the main accused.

The couple is said to have fought inside a car for around three hours and the police allege Nikki was murdered in the heat of the moment by the accused using a charging cable. He allegedly panicked and decided to hide the body in the freezer at his family’s dhaba, in a gruesome act reminiscent of the murder of Shraddha Walkar.

In a more shocking revelation, Gehlot went on to get married later the same day. Yadav is said to have found out about Gehlot’s wedding plans, which seemed to have led to the argument, police sources said.

Police sources claim Gehlot ‘confessed’ during his questioning and revealed the location of Yadav’s body.

After allegedly strangling Nikki, Sahil went to his parents’ home, 700 metres from where he hid her body.

‘We are looking into the CCTV footage and also scanning for more to collect evidence and establish what happened,’ a police officer said.

Sahil’s new bride has reportedly gone back to her parents’ home.

The police tracked down Gehlot after a neighbour reported Yadav missing. Yadav’s family lives in Jhajjar in Haryana.

The couple met while preparing for medical entrance exams and were in a live-in relationship for years, the police said.

The young woman’s father has demanded the death penalty for the accused.
