Actor Sonu Sood’s Sister Malvika Sood Joins Congress

Actor Sonu Sood’s sister, Malvika Sood, has joined the Congress party ahead of the Punjab polls.

Punjab will vote in a single phase on February 14, while the counting of votes in Punjab will take place on March 10.

Sonu Sood came out in support for his sister. He has been in the news for the way he lent support to migrants stranded the COVID lockdowns as well helping arrange for oxygen last year.

Congress’ Punjab unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, described Ms. Sood’s joining as a ‘game-changer.’

Sood spoke about her decision, saying that she wanted to ‘dedicate herself to serve the people.’

Sood joined the party in the presence of State Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Mr. Sidhu.

‘It is very rare that a Party Chief and the Chief Minister both have gone to someone’s home to grant the honor, and she deserves it,’ Mr. Sidhu said.

Sonu Sood had announced his sister’s intentions to join politics but had not divulged the details of the party she would join.

The Congress had won an absolute majority in Punjab after 10 years in the 2017 polls, winning 70 seats.

The Aam Aadmi Party emerged as the second-largest party winning 20 seats in the 117-member Punjab Legislative Assembly.

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), which was ousted by the Congress, could only manage to win 15 seats, with the BJP securing only 3 seats.
