A six-year-old girl was brutally raped in the toilet of Sant Nirankari Public School, Malviya Nagar on Wednesday. The perpetrator was a member of the schools housekeeping staff, as per police reports.
The accused employee, a 22-year-old sweeper, has been identified and arrested. His crime was brought to light when the child complained to her mother after returning home from school. She was immediately taken to the AIIMS hospital, where the doctors confirmed that she was raped.
The parents are in deep shock and have filed a case against the culprit, a resident of Dakshinpuri. The father of the child lamented that they send their kids to schools for education, not to fall prey to such perverts. A case has also been lodged against the school staff U/S of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Not even a month has passed since a similar horrific incident claimed the life of Pradhuman Thakur; the seven-year-old was found dead, with his throat slit open on the washroom floor of Ryan International School, Gurugram.
Complaint filed by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW)
The mother of the minor victim reported that the child had gone to the washroom to seek help. She encountered a male sweeper there, who assaulted her sexually.
The Delhi Commission for Women has instituted an inquiry into the matter. How did a male employee gain access to the girls toilet?, they have asked.
The DCW panel has asked the school authority for CCTV footage and demanded that the principal answer to the notice before October 10.
Last month, a peon had encroached the premises of a private school in Shahdara and raped a 5-year-old. The frequency of such atrocious cases continues to rise as the System watches helplessly!
A gross lapse in security threatens Indian education system
The motto of Ryan International School reads “Excellence in Education & All Round Development. The investigation report by CBSE tells another story. They have listed several faults in the school’s security.
Short boundary walls, lack of barbed fencing, a paucity of CCTV cameras, the absence of separate toilets, vulnerable spaces pose a serious threat to the safety of children in school. Even the most basic safety protocols are found wanting in schools and colleges across India. The Delhi Police Commissioner has urged these institutions to enforce adequate security measures.
