16-year-old girl stabbed to death in yet another gruesome murder in Delhi

In yet another case of the brutal murder in Delhi, CCTV footage (not published here due to graphic nature) shows a young girl pinned to a wall and stabbed several times by a young male, now identified by police as Sahil.

The murder takes place even as people passed the couple, with no one coming forward to stop the attacker, again highlighting the issue of safety for women in the national capital.

Authorities said the girl had planned to attend a friend’s son’s birthday party when the accused approached her. The two apparently got into a heated argument the day before the accused stabbed her multiple times and then bludgeoned her with a stone.

Police said that a post-mortem was underway on the girl, who was brought dead with several injuries on her body. She was stabbed more than 20 times, they added.

The murder took place within the limits of the Shahbad Dairy Police Station in north-west Delhi and the girl, said to be a resident of the area’s JJ Colony.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and members of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party hit out at Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena over the incident.

Kejriwal tweeted ‘A minor girl is brutally murdered openly in Delhi. This is very sad and unfortunate. The criminals have become fearless, there is no fear of the police. LG sir, law and order is your responsibility, do something. Safety of people of Delhi is paramount…’

Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also tweeted ‘LG saab is not doing his work then what is the responsibility? The law and order situation in Delhi has reached the lowest level. There is open bloodshed. Even today the incident of Shahabad is very shameful. LG saab has completely failed.’

Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal said the city ‘has become extremely unsafe for women and girls.’

’16-year-old girl was stabbed 40-50 times and then was hit by a stone multiple times after which she died. All this has been captured on CCTV. Several people saw this but did not pay heed. Delhi has become extremely unsafe for women and girls. I appeal to the central govt to call a high-level meeting with union home minister, Delhi LG, DCW chief and Delhi CM,’ Maliwal tweeted.

The accused was arrested from Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh and has been taken into custody.
