10 Developments in Uttar Pradesh That Depict the Massive Progress Under Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav

1. Dial 108 for the Samajwadi Health Service

Now, dialing 108 in Uttar Pradesh will make ambulance services available to people free of any charges. The Chief Minister inaugurated the service and also flagged off some of the ambulances. These included 133 ambulances for the Emergency Services and 240 others for the Samajwadi Swastha Seva.

2. Women Power Line – 1090

The government of Uttar Pradesh has established the “Woman Power Line 1090” for the prevention of atrocities against women. It was launched on the 5^th of November, 2012. This project aims at helping girls and women from harassment caused to them primarily because of gender insensitivity. The “Women Security App 1090” has also been launched in 2014 to add to the services provided for women.

3. Searching for Safe Public Transport for Women Made Easy

Dimple Yadav, Kannauj’s Member of Parliament, is leaving her mark on several state government initiatives, especially those concerning health, family welfare and women. The UP transport department, after being inspired by her, launched a ‘Pink Auto’ service in Lucknow exclusively for women passengers as a safe mode of commuting in the city. This service was attributed to the “inspiration and thinking” of Dimple Yadav.

4. UP Government’s Free E-Motor Battery Rickshaw Scheme

E-Rickshaws balance the scales between quality and economy, and are built for Indian roads. Recently, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, launched the trial runs of these battery-operated rickshaws at the Chief Minister’s offices.  This scheme has been launched by the Urban Development and Minority Department. This is a historic government scheme launched by UP government for the welfare of poor families and the minorities. After receiving feedback, the government intends to provide such rickshaws to all eligible families in need. This rickshaw will be available free of cost. The government currently distributed 23 models of these rickshaws, prepared by 13 companies. Servicing of the rickshaw will be done by the Uttar Pradesh Government. A total of 2,48,000 rickshaw riders are now registered under this scheme.

5. The 181 Mahila Asha Jyoti Line

To strengthen the digital development in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, along with Dimple Yadav, a Member of Parliament from Kannauj, together inaugurated the Asha Jyoti 181 Helpline on March 2016. This 24×7 unique helpline for women will be helpful in providing medical, police, legal and other facilities to the women in U.P.

This helpline is functioning as an all-in-one initiaive, providing a platform for all the women in Uttar Pradesh. After the inaugural event, Dimple Yadav flagged off 11 rescue vans provided by Aasha Jyoti Centres and also distributed seven e-rickshaws free-of-cost to women survivors of domestic violence.

6. Subsidy Reform: Seeding Change Through Direct Benefit Transfers

Akhilesh Yadav’s government in Uttar Pradesh is turning out to be a pacesetter in the implementation of Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) to farmers. The DBT portal of the UP agriculture department is already being used for disbursal of subsidy on seed purchases by farmers registered with it.

“We have covered five lakh of the 36 lakh-plus registered farmers under DBT so far this season. Since sowings are still on, I won’t be surprised if the figure ends up at 8-10 lakh,” said Amit Prasad, Principal Secretary, Uttar Pradesh government. Incidentally, the Uttar Pradesh government’s direct transfer of relief to cane growers has now been replicated by other states and the Centre, too.

7. Jan Sunwai — An Online Portal

The people of Uttar Pradesh can now register a complaint on governance directly with the Uttar Pradesh government. The Akhilesh Yadav-led government has launched an online Integrated Grievances Redress System (IGRS) — jansunwai.up.nic.in — a portal aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability of the various government departments. In districts, DM and police chiefs have been asked to keep an eye on the complaints for ensuring speedy and transparent redressal of grievances. The complainants can also track the status of the complaints through the portal.

8. The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Lost Article Reporting App

UP Police Launches an app for reporting lost or missing item.

In their quest to become tech-friendly, the Uttar Pradesh Police has been on a revamp spree, incorporating various elements of modern technology in their day-to-day working and even using tech elements to establish a stronger citizen connect.  Launched on the 24^th of January by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the app — which has received around 5000 downloads already — allows users to register complaints of the loss of an item or an official document.  In a state with a population of over 22 crores, this can really ease out things for the people, saving them the trouble of personally going to the police station to lodge an FIR.

9. What’s UP With Whatsapp Cover for Crops

Farmers in Uttar Pradesh now have a ‘WhatsApp cover’ for their crops. The Department of Agriculture, Uttar Pradesh, has launched Participatory Crop Surveillance and Response System, a direct interface between farmers in the state and the directorate of agriculture through mobile phones. Farmers, agriculture experts and even aware citizens can drop information about crops affected with pests and insects on two mobile numbers — 9452247111 and 9452257111 — which the department has kept specially for receiving complaints related to infected crops. Those who own a smartphone can lodge complaints and queries using WhatsApp while others may simply send an SMS for the same.

10. A Lifeline for the People in the Summers — The Samajwadi Water ATM Scheme

The 12^th of May, 2015, saw yet another remarkable initiative by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as he launched the Water ATM by the name of Samajwadi Shudha Payjal Yojna at various bus stations across the state. The Chief Minister said making potable water available at such reasonable price to bus passengers indicated the people-centric thinking of his government and called for installing water ATMs at most of the bus stations.

Water ATMs will provide potable water at the rate of ?1 per litre and cold potable water at ?2 per litre, he added.
