Tata Group will replace Vivo as the title sponsor at the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
The BCCI had decided to sever ties with the Chinese smartphone and tech company in the wake of the military clashes at the India-China border in 2020,
Vivo had bagged the title sponsorship rights for the for approxoimately US$ 341 million, as an extension of its two-year association from 2015, for a period of five years.
During the 2020 season, BCCI had turned to Dream XI, the gaming company, as an interim replacement for Vivo, when the border skirmishes first broke out.
The Tata Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the world will officially title sponsor the IPL for the 2022 and 2023 seasons post approvals by the IPL governing council. Letters of intent to the two new IPL teams – based in Lucknow and in Ahmedabad-were also given by the council.
Both franchises now have about ten days to finalize their player lists before the auction pool gets finalized
The auction is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
