Three Ways to Recover a Lost Partition
Here are a few ways in which you can recover a lost partition on any Windows device:
Using Command Prompt
Step 1:
Hover to the bottom-left of your screen and right-click on the Start icon and choose the Disk Management option.
Step 2:
Check under the Volume List to see whether the disk partition youre losing to restore is being displayed. If not, then it’s been unallocated. If yes, then click on it and restore.
Step 3:
Click on the Start icon again and find the Windows System button.
Step 4:
Click on it to open the folder and select Command Prompt to open it as an administrator. To do so, right-click on the button and select the Open as Administrator option under the More tab.
Step 5:
Type Diskpart on the screen displayed and press Enter
Step 6:
Type list disk and press Enter. You will see a list of all the storage devices connected to the system.
Step 7:
Type the command select disk X, where X is the letter against the hard drive where the partition was lost, and then press Enter.
Step 8:
Next, type the command assign letter=Y, where Y is the letter you want to assign to the required partition, and then press Enter.
Step 9:
A message such as Dispart successfully assigned to Y drive will be displayed on the screen confirming the renaming. Close Command Prompt and check if the partition is being displayed. If not, restart your computer and it will be displayed without fail.
From Unallocated Space
Step 1:
Open Disk Management and under the Disk Volume Split tab search for the Unallocated option.
Step 2:
Right-click on the Unallocated tab option and choose New Simple Volume from the dropdown menu. Specify the size of the partition and assign it a letter.
Step 3:
Click on Next and choose the Do Not Format option.
Step 4:
Click on Next followed by Finish. Your new unallocated partition will be converted to a RAW partition.
Step 5:
Open Disk Management again and right-click on the new partition you just created. Select the Open or Explore options. You should be able to view all the files and folders that the lost partition contained.
