The issue was transferred to the ethics committee which, after questioning Dubey, Dehadrai and Moitra, recommended Moitra’s expulsion.
The ethics committee report which recommended the expulsion of Mahua Moitra was tabled on Friday and Moitra was expelled hours later.
Both the TMC and the Congress have sought more time to go through the report.
What was the cash-for-query allegation?
Moitra was alleged to have taken cash and gifts from industrialist Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for Parliament login, using which Hiranandani posted questions against Gautam Adani and the Adani Group.
Opposition rallies behind Mahua Moitra
Mahua Moitra’s expulsion became a rallying point for the opposition.
Sonia Gandhi stood behind Moitra, as she read out her statement after the expulsion.
During the debate, Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said it was ‘not humanely possible to read the lengthy report in only two hours.’
The Congress demanded at least four days to study the lengthy report.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said the report was a ‘deeply inadequate document.’
‘This report is a deeply inadequate document, it fails to meet the basic standards of any report that can come up with such a dramatic recommendation of expulsion. It has apparently been adopted in 2.5 minutes without having any serious discussion,’ Tharoor said.
‘Injustice to Mahua’: TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee
Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee said injustice has been done to Moitra.
‘I don’t understand how only half an hour can be given to all parties to read a 495-page report and then debate. I congratulate the INDIA alliance, we all are united. The party is fully supporting Mahua’s case. She is elected by the people and represents women and the younger generation. How they betray democracy! They did not allow Mahua to take her own stand,’ the West Bengal CM said.
Moitra vowed to fight against the allegations and expulsion
Mahua Moitra invoked Ramesh Biduri’s objectionable remarks against BSP MP Danish Alim as she vowed to fight against the expulsion, asking why no action was taken against the BJP leader.
‘National security with a login portal? Mr Adani is buying all our ports, all our airports… His shareholders are foreign investors and the ministry of home affairs is giving them clearance to buy all our infrastructure,’ she said, after she was ousted from the Parliament.
‘Ramesh Biduri stands up in Parliament and makes objectionable remarks against Danish Ali, one of the few Muslim MPs…. the BJP has sent 303 MPs but hasn’t sent one Muslim MP to Parliament. No action has been taken against Biduri for abusing Ali…You hate minorities, you hate women, you hate nari shakti,’ she said.
‘I am 49 years old, I will fight you for the next 30 years, inside parliament, outside parliament, in the gutter, on the street,’ she added.
