A journey from school to the dynamic world of finance
Son of an illustrious Gujarati real-estate doyen, Adhum was born in Sussex, United Kingdom, and did his schooling from Lewes priory school in Lewes. Adhum had always known since an early age that he wanted to taste the world of finance as soon as he grew up. So following his father’s footsteps, he began to work in finance early on, after finishing school when he got an offer from Natural Resource Capital as the Business Development Director. His passion towards investing and growing businesses from the ground up was sparked once he started working in Dubai for a real estate company and then there was no looking back after that. With this newfound realization, he started working for Pura Logica, a subsidiary of Allianz Holdings limited and during his term, he was involved in a number of noteworthy business deals including the purchase of an intercontinental portfolio, acquiring and packaging of a hundred storey tower in Sri Lanka. He was also entrusted with brokering transactions of precious stones that the company owned. After having experienced the highs of the professional world that initial spark towards investments was now culminating into a full-blown desire to make something of his own.
A self-realization towards true ambition
Post-Allianz, he decided to move back to the UK and start doing what he was always meant for and wanted─ start his own investment venture. His first foray was Pocketlife Concierge, which is a Zurich based company which now goes by Eyas. Eyas is a Swiss-based company that is involved in real estate investing, financial consulting, portfolio management for Individual clients, family offices, private and publicly held funds. Eyas provides a wide range of recognized corporate services across sectors including management consulting, travel & hospitality, banking, real estate and recruiting, among others.
Adhum Carter’s views on the future of investment
Not completely surprisingly, Adhum Carter sees the future of investment as a highly digitalized one. Technology has always been viewed as a threat, with automation efficiency eliminating jobs and making manual jobs more and more redundant but on the other hand, with right regulations and policies, technology and innovation that make workplaces safer, increase productivity and create high-quality people-centric products and services.
The future of real estate will be largely driven by Proptech. The focus on cost will be paramount leading to a need for more transparent end-to-end management software. The big investment firms will most likely take advantage of this by adopting this technology at the earliest possible. The combination of augmented reality, virtual reality, drones, and 3D mapping will dramatically change the buying experience for property seekers in the future. Smart cities and smart building will be the new-age reality leading to a rapid rise in the co-working and co-living industry. Big data will change the game as companies will try to leverage analytics for creating better living spaces and augment residential living.
Adhum Carter’s views on the Asian market
The Asia real estate market is expected to be one of the highlights of real estate developments in 2018. Alternative real-estate which includes sectors such as student housing, senior citizen housing, education and data centres and so on will be the major draw. Proptech, which is the merging of property and technology will be the crucial market disruptor, with Asian proptech sector estimated at US$ 7.8 billion.
