Multiplayer games have been popular in India and with faster internet access, many of these games have a strong fan following. As per EY report, Indian eSports segment could bring in INR 11 billion in revenue by year 2025. 

Indian government banned some Chinese apps last year and there was outcry about popular game PUBG. Tencent, one of the biggest technology companies in China, owns PUBG and Indian government issued orders to ban the game along with many other apps with Chinese ownership. The government order cited potential threat from many apps due their linkage to China. It is well-known that China has strict data surveillance regulations and many companies share their data with Chinese authorities.

Indian government is planning to introduce regulations about online gambling and industry experts have welcomed the move. The Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) has lauded the move as a big step in the right direction for online gaming industry.

  • Land-based casinos are legalized, with certain guidelines, in Goa and Daman, as per the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act 1976
