The electric vehicle (EV) market in India continued to be controlled by Tata Motors, MG, and Mahindra in April 2025, with the three familiar players accounting for over 90% of the EV market share in the country. All three continued to record four-digit sales, highlighting their dominance in the increasing electric mobility market.
Tata Motors Remains at Number One Despite Year-on-Year Decline
Tata Motors topped the sales list with 4,461 electric vehicles sold during April 2025, retaining its position as India’s number one EV maker. While it retained the top spot, Tata saw a 14% drop from April 2024, when it sold 5,172 units.
The automaker currently has six electric models available in India:
- Tiago.ev
- Tigor.ev
- Punch.ev
- Nexon.ev
- Curvv.ev
- Xpress-T (available for fleet use only)
Tata was planning to introduce the Harrier.ev last month in April, but the launch has been pushed back for reasons that have not been stated.
MG and Mahindra Post Triple-Digit Growth
JSW MG Motor came in second, selling 3,488 EVs, a remarkable 175% year-over-year increase from the 1,268 units sold in April 2024. MG’s
India EV portfolio comprises:

- Ioniq 5 (locally assembled)
- Creta Electric (locally manufactured)
Despite the Creta Electric’s recent entry, its uptake appears modest.

- Atto 3
- eMax 7
- Seal
- Sealion 7
But all these vehicles are not locally produced, so they are quite costly and less affordable for the common buyer.
