Creating something fresh and unexpected out of something else is one of my favorite pastimes. That’s what I did when I repurposed a basketball purse wholesale into a stunning purse. In the end, you’ll have something unique, cool, and useful.
The basketball should be marked
A little note on the outside of my basketball bag was my first step. I began by taping the center of the pattern piece to the basketball’s center, then went along the line. On the basketball, I drew the contour of the design.
Mark the location of the handle
When I drew a line on the basketball, I measured the distance to the end of the line, and then marked 114 inches from that line for the handles. Markings were then made on both sides of the hardware once I had installed it.
Remove the basketball’s air bladder
I took out the majority of the air from the basketball with my basketball needle. As soon as there was nothing left, I used my markings to push the air up to the side of the basketball so that I could cut. Using my knife, I proceeded to chop off the section I had designated.
Install the hardware for the handle.
On the previously drawn markings, I punched holes using my rotary punch’s tiniest setting. Then I used the washer that came with my hardware and put my screws into the holes on the inside of the bag. Afterward, I painted a drop of nail polish on the screw’s head before screwing it in place. As soon as I was comfortable with the positioning, I proceeded to screw in the opposite side. This was done with each of the six handles.
The opening’s margins should be painted
The cut edges of the aperture were untidy as a result of my slicing off the basketball. To make the edges match the outside, I grabbed some edge paint. To acquire the right color of edge paint for the basketball, I blended Angelus’s English Tan and Tangerine hues.
Zip up your zipper first
My preferred method of attaching the zipper is by sewing it in place since I know there will be a lot of pressure on the zipper when I’m finished. To get the right zipper length, I measured the opening of the basketball bag and added 112″ to the top and bottom of the zipper. As a final touch, I installed a zipper stopper at its base.
Fasten the zipper to the garment
I used double-sided tape to secure the zipper’s outer edges. I then inserted the double-stick tape from the inside of the basketball after removing the paper backing from my zipper. I positioned it so that the zipper’s bottom edge and center were perfectly aligned. Then, I pressed the zipper around the opening, making sure it was firmly in place.
Set up the grips
Cut the foam using the pattern for the handles as a stencil After that, I cut out stay paper with it. Stay paper is designed to bend in one direction, but not in the opposite direction. It took me a while to figure out how to make the handles bend, so I cut out two separate shapes of the staying paper for each handle, each of which bent in the opposite direction. Rubber cement was used to attach the stays to the foam after all the pieces had been cut out.
Embroider fabric onto the handles of the bag
Before pressing the edges down, I glued this to the stay and waited for it to dry. After that, I glued the handles together, one side of the foam and the other side of the chipboard. After that, I sewed around the handles with my edge foot and marked where I wanted the grommets to go.
Make the shoulder strap
I sandwiched bonded leather between two layers of leather to create the shoulder strap. Rubber cement was used to adhere the bonded leather to one side of each piece of leather. Placed the bonded leather, glued side down, on top of another piece of genuine leather, and allowed it to dry. I used a bone folder to smooth it out, then added more glue and waited for it to dry before applying the final piece of leather. After that, I used my pattern to cut the strap to the correct length. I sewed around it after cutting it at the raw edge. Edge paint can also be used to paint the edges of the strap if you’re doing this project.
This basketball bag is my new favorite accessory. It’s so distinctive and cool that I adore it. What are your thoughts? Would you carry such a bag from Dhgate cheap prices for the long term? In addition, would you be interested in making a purse like this? Let us know if you’ve done so in the comments!
