Republic Television editor Arnab Goswami was detained by the Alibaug police in connection with the death of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in 2018.
Senior officials confirmed Mr. Goswami’s arrest.
The arrest is reported to be in connection with the death by suicide of 53-year-old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik, in Alibaug in May 2018.
A suicide note purported to have been written by Mr. Naik claimed that Mr. Goswami and two others allegedly owed him money and had refused to pay up, forcing him to take the extreme step.
The abetment to suicide case filed by the Alibaug Police in 2018 was closed by the Raigad Police in 2019. However, the Maharashtra government announced earlier this year that case against Goswami and two others would be inquired into again by the state Criminal Investigation Department.
Mr. Goswami’s arrest comes in the backdrop of allegations and an ongoing investigation of his channel’s involvement in a television ratings scam.
