Rani Kamlapati Railway Station and Birsa Munda Memorial: PM Modi In Bhopal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the revamped Rani Kamlapati Railway Station, earlier known as Habibganj, on a visit to Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, today.

Escalators and lifts have been installed at the station and the main cooncourse cabn house up to 1,100 passengers has For information about the movement of trains, display boards with different languages have been installed throughout the station.

Built to international standards, the station will have food courts, restaurants, air-conditioned waiting rooms and a VIP lounge.

Around 160 CCTV cameras have also been installed at the station to keep round-the-clock surveillance.

Who was Rani Kamlapati Whom Station Is Named After?

The 18th-century queen was one of the seven wives of Gond warlord Nizam Shah, who ruled his territory from Ginnor fort, the present day Ginnorgarh, in what is now Sehore district. 

The Madhya Pradesh government had earlier written to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to rename the station after the legendary figure in the Gond community.

Birsa Munda Museum

Mr. Modi also inaugurated the Bhagwan Birsa Munda memorial-cum-freedom fighter museum on what was the first ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ or ‘Tribal Pride Day.

Addressing a gathering virtually, Mr. Modi said as the country celebrated 75 years of Independence next year, it had been decided to honour the contributions of tribal people. “For this, a historic decision has been taken that from today, every year the country will celebrate November 15 i.e. the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas,” he stated.

PM Modi went on to say that Birsa Munda knew that social welfare could not be achieved by eschewing India’s diversity, ancient identity and nature in the name of modernity. He believed in modern education and speaking out against societal ills. Mahatma Gandhi was fighting against racial discrimination in South Africa and Birsa Munda was fighting against British rule in India, he added.
