News By The Numbers: India reaches 1 billion milestone in administering COVID-19 vaccines

India flagged off its vaccination drive against COVID-19 in January 2021, 10 months after the infection was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

India achieved this milestone in nine months or 275 days exactly

India follows China, the only other nation to have a population of over 100 crore.

To date, over 664 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered across the world

India accounts for about 15 per cent of the total number of vaccinations globally

Around 48 per cent of the world population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

The Union Health Minister launched a special song and the film at the iconic Red Fort where the country’s largest khadi tricolor, weighing around 1,400 kg, has been displayed.

The same tricolor, which measures 225 feet by 150 feet was unfurled at Leh on the occasion Gandhi Jayanti at Leh.
