What is the portal?
Based on the “Self4Society” theme, the portal will enable IT professionals and organizations in consolidating efforts towards social causes, and service to society, on one platform.
“The portal is expected to help catalyse greater collaboration towards the service of the weaker sections of society, especially by leveraging the benefits of technology. It is also expected to generate wider participation of interested people who are motivated to work for the benefit of society,” according to the prime minister’s website.
Modi launched Future Skills platform for IT professionals
In February 2018, PM Modi launched Nasscom’s Future Skills platform that sought to upskill IT employees and prospective job seekers in eight emerging technologies that could drive the job growth in India.
These technologies include artificial intelligence, virtual reality, robotic process automation, internet of things, big data analytics, 3D printing, cloud computing, social networking, and mobile. Nasscom also took note of 55 job roles that could be in demand around the world.
Media reports mentioned that the platform would look to skill two million employees in new technologies and it would also skill two million youth aspiring for jobs. The platform aimed to upgrade the skills of 5 million IT professionals within the next five years.
In order to upgrade skills and re-skill the IT industry as per changes in technology, the platform would also be offering online courses, along with certification on completion of the training.
