Sayan Chatterjee, Chennai, 19th November 2024 – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence (SCOD) convened a crucial meeting with a delegation from the Indian Navy to deliberate on the Navy’s pivotal role in ensuring the Nation’s Maritime Security. The session was chaired by Hon’ble Member of Parliament Shri Radha Mohan Singh and was held in Chennai.
The Indian Navy delegation was led by Vice Admiral AN Pramod, Director General of Naval Operations (DGNO) from Naval Headquarters, who provided an in-depth briefing on the operational capabilities and strategic initiatives of the Navy in safeguarding India’s vast maritime interests.
The discussions highlighted the increasing importance of maritime security in light of evolving global challenges, the protection of India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), Atmanirbharata in Defence manufacturing and the strategic role played by the Indian Navy in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
Radha Mohan Singh, on behalf of the Committee, lauded the Navy’s continued efforts in inducting modern technologies, infrastructure, and capacity-building to maintain readiness against emerging threats. The session underscored the Government’s commitment to bolstering national security by fostering collaboration between policymakers and the Armed Forces.
