Daniel Craig’s fifth and final Bond movie, No Time To Die, directed by US film-maker Cary Joji Fukunaga, starring Lea Seydoux and Rami Malek, had a 119-million-dollar worldwide gross during its opening weekend.
A critic and fan favourite already, many gave the flick five-star reviews after its premiere at the Royal Albert Hall earlier this week.
The film was delayed several times by Covid-19 and the movie industry is watching closely to see whether it return box-office numbers to pre-pandemic levels.
In India, the movie collected Rs. 12.50 crore in its first weekend across all languages, according to trade reports.
With an opening such as this, cinema owners would be right in pinning their hopes on Bond to revive their dying fortunes in the wake of the pandemic induced lockdowns, as people return to the movies.
Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, producers of the James Bond spy series, said they won’t discuss who will take over the long-running film franchise following Daniel Craig’s departure, until 2022.
Many say those are tough shoes to fill, as Craig has consistently been rated amongst the best to ever play the legendary British spy.
