A number of European countries have banned flights from the UK as the amid warnings that a potent new strain of the virus was discovered in the country.
Just as vaccines begin to offer hope for a path out of the pandemic, officials in Britain this past weekend sounded an urgent alarm about what they called a highly contagious new variant of the coronavirus circulating in England, post which the UK government announced one of its more stringent lockdowns.
During a televised briefing, Johnson said that the new variant of the coronavirus is 70% more transmissible than existing strains.

A government statement said that all flights originating from the UK to India are to be suspended until 31 December 2020.
Whether the vaccines in production can halt the spread of this ‘mutation’ remains to be seen.
