Apple will open its first retail store in India’s financial capital of Mumbai
While the formal date of opening is yet to be announced, the company is reported to have the Apple Store at the Jio World Drive mall, owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani.
Apple’s second store will open in Delhi in the coming days.
India is the world’s second largest market for smartphones and while Apple had a sluggish start in the highly-price-conscious environment owing to its premium pricing and brand positioning, the company sees an explosive growth potential, as Indians begin to enjoy high disposable incomes.
Apple will also look to kickstart manufacturing facility in India.
Apple has more than 500 stores in major global cities including New York, Dubai, London and Tokyo at present.
Apple Stores are flag-bearers in experiential marketing, with large event spaces that hold signature Apple events, video walls for interactive content and the concept of ‘town squares,’ a cross between a retail store and an education center, wrapped up in a plaza-like package, resembling a mini tech park.
