Sri Vishnu is back on the big screen with yet another offbeat, light-hearted entertainer in the form of #Single, a movie that relies heavily on his comic timing and youthful charm. Famous for selecting offbeat roles with a touch of humor, Vishnu again proves himself to be an entertaining performer in this love triangle that appeals to a younger generation. But to what extent does it leave an indelible mark?
Story Overview:
Vijay (Sri Vishnu) is a bank insurance officer in SDF Bank. His friend Aravind (played by the irrepressible Vennela Kishore) has fallen for a girl and comes to Vijay for help to conquer her. In trying to help Aravind, Vijay meets Purva (Ketika Sharma) in the metro and is smitten. He then embarks on a comedic quest to woo her — with a number of side-splitting misfires.
As he struggles with his romantic life, Harini (Ivana), an independent dancer, enters his world and finds herself falling for him unexpectedly. Then ensues a mad love triangle with lots of misunderstandings, laughter, and some emotional turns. Will Vijay get Purva? Or will Harini steal his heart? Or will he stay “Single” as the title of the show promises?
Performance Analysis:
Sri Vishnu excels as Vijay. His slapstick humor, comedic face, and impeccable timing make even the most formulaic scenes fun. His parodies of top film stars and their signature dialogues provide a charming layer of parody that strikes a chord with Telugu cinema enthusiasts.
Vennela Kishore as Aravind brings the house down with his impeccable diction and slapstick humor. His rapport with Vishnu is the life of the first half.
Ketika Sharma acts well in her role as the calm and poised Purva. She’s equable and peaceful, being a counter to the otherwise crazy happenings.
Ivana surprises with a delightful turn as the bubbly and quirky Harini. Her presence infuses a much-needed fresh energy into the second half.
Supporting performers such as Rajendra Prasad (imbuing emotional depth as ASN Murthy), VTV Ganesh, Satya, and Reba Monica John impart flavor in brief but effective scenes.
Direction & Screenplay:
First-time director Karthik Raju gives a low-key love story a life with a witty screenplay and colorful characters. The film is contemporary and quick-paced, particularly in the first half. He incorporates current topics, meme culture, and social media hype into the dialogue — which makes the movie current and entertaining for today’s young people.
While the first half is a laugh riot and situational comedy (most of it centered around a metro station), the second half brings an emotional depth that slows down the pace slightly. But the film soon recovers to humor, and the climax is both satisfying and open-ended, perhaps leaving scope for a sequel.
Music & Technical Aspects:
Vishal Chandrasekhar’s soundtrack is catchy and pairs well with the light tone of the film. The background music complements the comic scenes perfectly.
Cinematography is mediocre. While it captures cityscapes and colorful shots adequately, there is nothing visually outstanding.
Production standards are good and in keeping with the tone of the film.
Strengths:
- Sri Vishnu and Vennela Kishore’s comic bromance
- Contemporary, witty dialogues that will click with Gen Z
- Amusing, meme-able moments and pop culture mentions
- Quick and lively first half
Weaknesses:
- A relatively run-of-the-mill plot with limited freshness
- Second half slows down a little and touches the lower heights of comedy
- The emotional tangent seems slightly under-explored
Final Verdict
#Single is a fun, young rom-com that serves up just what it sets out to do — lighthearted entertainment, situational comedy, and a warm lead turn from Sri Vishnu. The film may not have any new story to tell, but the way the story is told, the meme-crafted banter, and the high-energy performances make it a worthwhile watch, particularly for youth audiences and feel-good movie enthusiasts.
Watch it for the humor, the bromance, and the mayhem of modern love.
