Chief of the Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena and a prominent Rajput leader in Rajasthan, Gogamedi was shot dead outside his Jaipur residence, when two men on a scooter opened fire. The assailants managed to escape the scene.
Mr Gogamedi and two of his associates suffered serious bullet injurie]s and were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Gogamedi dead.
Gogamedi led the fringe outfit, which is not connected to the Karni Sena that spearheaded the protests against Bollywood movie Padmaavat.
Gogamedi formed his outfit in 2015 after splitting from Karni Sena.
The incident took place in Jaipur’s Shyam Nagar area.
‘As per initial reports, four people entered a house where Gogamedi was present and opened fire at him. One of Gogamedi’s security personnel and another person were injured in the firing,’ Rajasthan Police said.
Police identify two of the accused in the incident
One of the accused has been identified as a native of Makrana Nagaur, while the other one is a native of Haryana’s Mahendragath.
The accused met the Karni Sena chief at his residence on the pretext of giving a marriage card, according to sources.
According to sorces, the murder could have been a result of a land dispute. Reportedly, the Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was involved in land disputes involving organized crime members.
A gang member is said to have claimed responsibility of the murder soon after the death of the Karni Sena chief.
However, the police are investigating the case from other angles too.
The police is also probing this murder from a ‘revenge-killing’ angle.
Protests intensify in Rajasthan, as many call for state ‘bandh’
Members of the Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena and other community outfits called for a state-wide bandh in Rajasthan on Wednesday, following the killing of Gogamedi on Tuesday. The community members also demanded a judicial probe into the matter.
