Sayan Chatterjee, New Delhi, September 10th, 2024—The Media Photojournalist Trust organized a remarkable photo exhibition at the Press Club of India, highlighting Delhi’s evolving landscape over the past decade.
Gagan Narang, India’s celebrated shooter and bronze medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, inaugurated the exhibition. Prominent figures participated, including Gautam Lahiri, President of the Press Club of India, General Secretary Neeraj Thakur, and politician and social worker Paramjit Singh Pamma.
Pamma expressed his commitment to urging the government to provide medical facilities for all photographers, recognising their essential role in capturing the essence of society. Executive member Ravind Kumar was also present to support the photojournalist community.
The exhibition featured a stunning collection of photographs from numerous photojournalists working across various organisations in Delhi. These images captured the city’s transformation, documenting the dynamic changes that have shaped the capital over the past decade. Visitors attended to view the exhibition from September 6th to September 9th and share their thoughts on the visual narrative, thereby playing an integral role in appreciating the photojournalists’ work.
Nawal, the President of the Media Photojournalist Trust, emphasised the organisation’s mission to support the unique challenges faced by photojournalists. Acting President Manvendra Vashisth announced plans to hold an open competition for media photojournalists in Delhi, further encouraging creative expression and professional growth. General Secretary Qamar Sibtein expressed his excitement over the enthusiastic participation of the photographers, revealing plans for a significant future exhibition centred around the theme of “Smart City.”
As a memento, a collage of photographs featuring Gagan Narang was presented to him, honouring his contributions as a sports icon and an inspirational figure for the community. Among the distinguished photographers whose works were showcased were Praveen Khanna (Indian Express), Prem Bisht (UNI), Vivek Nigam (Amar Ujala), Tashi Topgyal (Indian Express), Mihir Singh (Punjab Kesari), Ms Anupama Gautam (IANS) and several others.
Their combined efforts provided a powerful visual exploration of Delhi’s growth and transformation. The exhibition poignantly reminded us that despite the rise of AI in photography, the human perspective remains irreplaceable. Each photograph, crafted through the lens of a skilled photojournalist, tells a story that no algorithm could replicate.
