Traditionally when you go through the service a bookmaker offers, it is all based around sporting events.
This is very diverse, but the key is that everything is based around sport. From betting on the biggest leagues in the world like the Premier League to sports that are traditional betting sports like horse racing and greyhound racing.
However, if recent moves are to be followed in the future, we could see a shift away from bookmakers sticking only to sports betting.
We have seen them add plenty of alternative ways to bet over the past decade, and in an industry that is very competitive, something like this could be what bookmakers use to stand out.
There are many new customers out there signing up for sports bets, and now we are seeing people sign up for other types of bets too.
The Rise of Politics Betting
The biggest rise in terms of non-sport betting over the past decade has certainly been in politics betting. This is something that many bookmakers offer, and with some huge political events happening over the past decade, it has been pushed forward even more.
From in depth election markets, both in the UK and the USA to markets about Brexit, next leaders and much more. This has been a big decade for politics with a number of talking points and the bookmakers have reacted by making as many political betting markets as possible.
Many people are interested in politics, and some of those won’t like sports at all. For these people, the bookmakers are now offering them a way to get into betting that they have previously never had.
TV & Film Betting
This is a section of betting websites that has grown considerably, and not only that but it is also a very broad subject.
It doesn’t really matter what type of TV you like, or if you are into films, there will be something to bet on that you can relate to.
This may involve a reality program and betting on who will win or it could be something such as awards winners, or which actor will land a big role.
We are even seeing free bet offers from the bookmakers based around markets like these ones. Every free bet bonus comes with terms & conditions but they offer the perfect way into betting for newcomers.
TV is a very broad subject, and the bookmakers have done a great job to try and cover all bases and appeal to all types of viewers. If you don’t like sport, and don’t watch it on TV, that doesn’t mean you can’t take part in betting on televised events.
What Could We See in the Future?
It is going to be very interesting to see what happens in the future. There is probably little else that the bookmakers can add to their betting, so the next step is probably going to be about enhancing their service and adding new betting markets.
So for example, rather than outright win markets on reality TV shows, we could see other sports betting markets involved. Things such as reaching the final, head to head matchups between people and others could all be added.
When it comes to political betting, the only way to go here is to add depth. Markets such as individual constituencies in the UK, state betting in the US and anything else that can add depth are likely to come in the future.
There has been a big shift by the bookmakers, they are accepting bets away from sport. The platform has been built, now expect to see the service grow.
