The BJP he
adquarters in New Delhi is all set to see a flurry of activity on Wednesday evening, with thousandsof party workers gathering to accord a grand welcome to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a successful G20 Summit.
India’s hosting of the prestigious summit which ended in a consensus on the New Delhi Declaration is being seen as a major diplomatic victory for the country, which is being seen as a rising power.
The country’s successful presidency of the G20 and its championing of the issues of the Global South have also strengthened its case for a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council as well.
The Prime Minister will get down to electoral business right after the welcome and take part in the BJP’s Central Election Committee meeting to decide on candidates for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
The committee’s additional members include BJP President J P Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
On August 16, the committee convened a prior meeting during which candidates were declared for 39 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, under BJP governance, and 21 constituencies in Chhattisgarh, under Congress rule. These selections were made for constituencies where the BJP did not possess incumbent MLAs.
The meeting today is expected to involve discussions on candidates for 50 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh and 35 constituencies in Chhattisgarh.
Apart from meeting BJP workers and poll planning, PM Modi will also host 450 Delhi Police personnel, deployed for the G20 duty, at dinner.
