Easily the biggest solo artist in the world right now, pop singer Taylor Swift made Grammy history by winning her fourth ‘Album of the Year’ award for ‘Midnights.’
The 34-year-old surpassed music icons Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder with the most wins of the most coveted Grammy.
Swift won over other popular artists including Lana Del Rey, Olivia Rodrigo, Jon Batiste and top nominee, with nine nominations, SZA to take home the big one.
Swift also took home the Grammy for ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’. To the delight of her legions of fans, Swift announced she would release a new studio album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ on April 19.
Ustad Zakir Hussain made India proud as he bagged three Grammys. The tabla maestro and music composer’s ‘Pashto’ picked up an award for ‘Best Global Music Performance.’
Hussain’s jazz group ‘Shakti’ won ‘Best Global Music Album’ for ‘This Moment.’ He also won in the category of ‘Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.’
SZA, Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell, Dua Lipa, Luke Combs and Burna Boy made for a great mix of legendary and contemporary performers.
The Grammy Awards 2024 winners are chosen by the musicians, producers, engineers and others who make up the Recording Academy.
The group has worked to diversify its membership in recent years by inviting more women and people of colour to its ranks.
Organizers also added a handful of new categories this year, including ‘Best African music performance.’
