Google announces ChatGPT competitor ‘Bard’

Google on Monday announced an artificial intelligence chatbot technology called Bard that the company will begin rolling out in the coming weeks.

Google will open up Bard to ‘trusted testers’ before launching it for the public, the company said in a blog post.

Bard will compete directly with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Bard is powered by the company’s large language model LaMDA, or Language Model for Dialogue Applications, featuring a chatbot called ‘Apprentice Bard,’ as well as new search desktop designs to support a QnA format.

Google’s prime business is web search, and AI is definitely an arena it will look to acquire a leadership role in.

With the rising popularity of ChatGPT and its reputation as the predominant search solution on the internet, Google emphasized the importance of ‘rigorous testing’ saying it will combine external feedback with its own internal testing to make sure Bard’s responses meet a high bar for quality, safety and groundedness in real-world information.’
